Making a Difference

This came across my Twitter feed today. http://goo.gl/j1XeK

A study done by faculty at Harvard and Columbia shows…

“If an elementary school student has an excellent teacher even for a single year, it boosts their income by an average of about 2 percent per year.”

It goes on to say, “To put that in perspective, if we can find a way to raise gross domestic product (GDP) by 2 percent, you’re talking about nearly ending the Great Recession every year. By economic standards, it’s a huge deal.”

Are you a teacher?  Do you think you don’t make a difference? Think again! What you do every day makes a difference in every child’s life you touch, whether it is the “prized student” or “that student”. Take pride in knowing that your students can, and should, have that excellent teacher every year, not just one year.

Teachers amaze me every day. So much is put on their plate, yet they keep moving forward…and too often without the thanks or acknowledgement they deserve. It is taken for granted every day what they accomplish. Teaching our future is a big enough task…having to do all the parenting, nursing, training, paperwork, meetings, paperwork, meetings, paperwork, meetings, paperwork, meetings…did I mention paperwork and meetings?…just makes what they do that much more spectacular. I am humbled and thankful for who I work with…they are truly a great bunch.
